The first week of July, we made our annual beach trip to Myrtle Beach. We tried a new campground this year and absolutely loved it! I spent a lot of time here when I was younger so I am glad to make some precious memories here with my own family.
The ride down was uneventful with a six week old. We were pretty nervous but all of the boys did great. We stopped twice. Yep, twice. Once in Sumter to eat lunch (Davis slept through that) and once in a church parking lot for him to eat. It was probably our fastest ride to date.
Lakewood is a special place, for sure. We had the perfect spot. It was shaded... which was necessary for the 105 degree heat index that week!
The boys were dying to feel the sand and see the ocean.. they have a lot of their momma in them! Once we got set up and we ate supper, we headed to the beach.
Baby lovebug slept through his first visit to the ocean. He was snug as a bug and took a good nap.
One of my very favorite places... with some of my very favorite people. God's handiwork is amazing.
This kid was lulled to sleep by the waves on his first trip down to the ocean.
We spent lots of evenings in the water. The days were soooo hot with a heat index of 105! Lakewood had a neat water park with slides and a lazy river and pool. The boys loved it!
Don't be fooled. This beach nap lasted all of five minutes. There was no breeze in the tent and it was HOT. There was no breeze anywhere. It was the hottest beach trip of my 34 years, for sure. This kid was miserable in the heat.
In typical campground fashion, we joined in on the golf cart decorations. The huge flamingo made finding our golf cart very easy. Bennett loves a gaudy decoration.
This kid makes me smile. This was Holden's bathing suit for his first beach trip.
Here is a picture of an ice cream/milkshake run. We finally decided to go buy cartons of ice cream because $15 a night was going to add up quick.
We passed the time and avoided the heat in the arcade one afternoon. The boys and I love a good arcade. Look at that face!
Someone won air hockey... and it wasn't Holden :)
We also did a lot of the craft times the campground offered. The boys love crafts, especially Bennett. Here is our first time doing sand art.
We had to venture out one night to get seafood so we went to see the mermaids for the third year in a row!
Daddy and Davis
We put a lot of miles on that golf cart during our beach week! We love to ride- especially in the evenings.
We painted picture frames one day.
After the first scorching hot day on the beach with a loaded down beach cart, cooler, umbrella, toys, snacks, chairs, baby, tent, etc. went downhill quickly, we decided we would be better off enjoying the beach in the late afternoon/early evenings. It was perfect. Hardly any crowds, cooler temps, and no need for so much stuff!
We braved the waterpark one day. Jonathan kept D at the camper and I took the boys to do something just the three of us.
After D woke up, Jonathan brought him to the waterpark and he rode some of the water slides with B while I hung out in the pool with D and H. Bennett wasn't sure about the slide at first but LOVED it once he finally did it!
This picture makes me laugh!
Evenings on the beach are the best... even when it sprinkles.
This cutie and I stayed dry under the umbrella.
There were LOTS of games played on this trip. Holden loves a good board game. He has finally learned to play Guess Who? by himself with no help. It is hilarious to listen to the two of them.
We also found out that the two big boys are pretty good at putt putt. We played several rounds at the campground.
And just like that... another beach trip was in the books. Memories were made and reservations were made for July 2020. The boys kindly obliged for the annual pictures in front of the campground signs.
Of course, we had to go to the beach one last time before leaving to say 'see you later' to the ocean.
It was a wonderful week... although very challenging with a new baby! I can't wait to see what we get into next year!
